Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classroom of 23 students, about half of whom receive special education services. Our students are eager to learn and need the resources in order to be successful in their studies!
Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with most of our students receiving free lunch.
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them for the rest of the day!
My Project
My students need a large whiteboard to visualize all that I am teaching them in reading, writing, and math. Currently, my classroom is well-equipped with bulletin boards to display student work, but only has one 2' x 2' whiteboard. When the classroom was originally pieced together, the standards were much different from how they are today. Now, students are expected to read, write, and understand more advanced math concepts than ever before. It is imperative that, as a teacher, I am able to demonstrate these concepts to them. However, the current board is not large enough to do so. A larger whiteboard will allow me to write large enough for all of my students to see. I will be able to write a paragraph without running out of space. There will be space for 3 or 4 of my students to work on the board simultaneously to solve problems and further practice their writing skills.
A donation to this project will change the way that I am able to teach my students.
I will be able to conserve expensive paper by having several students at a time write on the whiteboard. I will be able to have my students collaboratively write paragraphs and have enough space to write them on the whiteboard. These young students will be able to not only hear but also see the words and letters that they are learning. I am excited to see what other impacts it will have!
