My Students

My students live in a rural, economically-struggling district. More than half of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches.

Our kids want to read, but don't have access to print and online reading materials that, perhaps, their higher SES peers do.

A small group of dedicated teachers, our custodian and secretary, our maintenance staff and students at our middle school want to change that.

Adding new, updated fiction titles to our library will entice students to come to our newly organized library reading space.

My Project

Our middle school library has no funding and no librarian, but literacy is the number one indicator of success on state-mandated tests. A group of dedicated staff members - from custodians to teachers - are working to update and organize our beautiful library space.

We need forty-one new, updated fiction titles that will entice our middle school students and inspire them to read.

Our list of requested books is gleaned from 'best of..." lists from 2017, 2018 and all-time and include multiple genres.

Current authors such as John Green, Jason Reynolds and Ibi Zoboi will help us connect to our kids.
