My students need a circle time rug to learn how to sit during large group instruction, communication devices to foster language development, and a resistance tunnel.
Welcome to our classroom! We are a busy group of three- to five- year old children with a variety of disabilities. We pride ourselves in a "Can Do" attitude. The number one rule in our class is to try your best each day.
The students in my class are between three and five years of age.
They all have special needs including speech impairments or language delays, intellectual disabilities, attention deficit disorder, and autism. They are a busy bunch who are very eager to learn as much as they can, just need things presented in a different way. Please don't think that can slow us down!! Our classroom is part of our school district's Early Childhood Education Center which provides an environment safe for our youngest public students as they make the transition from home to school. Our school serves students from across the entire district with the majority coming from low-income neighborhoods.
My Project
We do not currently have a circle time rug in which makes transitioning my students from preschool to kindergarten challenging. When my students leave my class they head off to kindergarten where they sit on the carpet for large group instruction. I would like to start practicing sitting on the carpet during large group instruction so they are more prepared for this transition. We are also in need of communication buttons or switches to help facilitate language interactions with each other. Many of my students struggle with their verbal communication (talking) so having switches will allow them to participate with their peers in class discussions. Finally, having a resistance tunnel will be very helpful when we need to get our wiggles out! Many children with autism and attention deficit disorder need extra sensory input. Having a resistance tunnel will give me a great tool to work on sensory regulation with my students better preparing them to learn in the classroom.
By donating to my classroom you will help my students be more successful not only while they are with me in preschool, but also as they transition to kindergarten and beyond.
Having a circle time rug will give my students practice in how to engage during large group instruction. The switches/buttons will help my students who struggle with verbal communication to have a voice. Finally, the resistance tunnel will help keep us focused while we grow our minds this year. Thank you for helping us!
