New Tech Life for Designing Spanish-Language Magazine
My students need a computer that doesn't freeze up and crash while running basic magazine layout software to create their unique student publication in Spanish.
We are an enthusiastic mix of Spanish native speakers and advanced Spanish learners who are eager to put their skills and literacy to practical, real-world use. We're ready to interview visiting artists and public figures and other students. We cover local, national, and international events and issues. We write up columns and editorials and feature stories. We lead workshops at student conferences to help others take up the cause as well, to raise their own voices in print.
puño & letra is the ONLY Spanish-language high school publication in the Northwest, and entering our fourth year.
Our mission, crafted by the student founding editors, is to champion causes of equity, social justice, and intersectionality... to raise youth voice in our own language and our own perspective, with insight, humor and dedication to the cause.
My Project
Our Spanish-language magazine course has been a resounding success as it has grown since its founding four years ago. Our crew of student writers and designers just doubled from last year alone.
The computer we salvaged three years ago and currently use for page design and layout constantly crashes, freezes, frustrates, and slows down the production of our publication.
A newer basic desktop computer, nothing fancy, would streamline our work and eliminate unnecessary hassle in publishing such compelling student voice. A newer basic monitor, also nothing fancy, would accurately display the color in our page and cover art and design.
