The majority of my students are economically disadvantaged.
Many do not have any computer access at home, so to do anything that is close to a flipped classroom is basically impossible. I need to get technology that my students can actually use for a lot of different applications in a timely manner. To use our current laptops it takes about 15 minutes for each one to load up and in 50 minute classes, that is not exactly optimal.
My Project
This tablet and cover that I am requesting will be the first step in building up a set of technological materials that will help my students learn new concepts, work on interactive presentations to demonstrate their understanding of their new knowledge, and allow them to use the full suite of office material loaded onto this tablet. This will be a wonderful start to putting together a set of materials to help prepare my students for high school and beyond.
Edmodo, Polleverywhere, Socrative, Educreations, this list can go on and on and those are just the apps, not to talk about Prezi and PowerPoint that my students will be able to access as GT extension activities, to go beyond the on-level classroom discussions without being singled out from the rest of the class.
This will make a difference in my students education by allowing them to use electronic materials in an appropriate and meaningful way.
They got so excited when they found out the last project was funded now I want to add on to their electronic abilities with another Microsoft surface and cover for my students.
