Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students at my school are inquisitive, compassionate, and creative. For students with special learning needs, concentration and sensory stimulation can be quite a challenge for them while they are trying to learn. I am a special education teacher at a K-5 elementary school in a developing urban area. A comfortable, warm classroom environment is an essential need for my students. Many of my students receive special instruction in my classroom, and they deserve to be able to walk into a warm, inviting classroom. As a new teacher in a new school and a new classroom, I want to do everything in my power to give these students the amazing environment that they deserve to have as their learning space!
My Project
These materials will allow me to build a warm and comfortable classroom that will serve as a "home away from home" for my students with special needs. As they do not get to spend the majority of the day with their classmates in the general ed classroom, I would love to provide my students with a safe, comfortable, and wonderful room where they can do their best learning in a fun way. I am looking to provide flexible seating in he form of wiggle chairs, and a couple of leveled readers that they may enjoy in their wiggle seats during independent reading. Students would be able to benefit from these materials as they would help students deal with figeting and building movement into their classroom environment. My students have sensory needs, and these tools would be able to accommodate their unique needs by allowing them to move and fidget in their seats! Anything to help these amazing students and their new teacher would be much appreciated!
