My Students
I haven't met my students yet, but I am beyond excited for the first day of school! I will be working with kindergarten students who are in a "Talent Development" program. They are kiddos who are already precocious or emergent readers and/or have strong foundations in math. Many of them will be ready to read shortly after school starts and I want to have a classroom ready to meet their needs. I just know they will be excited and eager to learn and they need the best materials to guide them as they start their formal journey into education!
My Project
Many of my students will already know their letters and sounds and be ready to jump right into books, but I need to be able to provide them with materials in class. Having a classroom library will give my students easier access to books and allow for more in-class reading time. They'll be able to grab their book boxes and quietly read during literacy time or when they finish other assignments early. Having books in the classroom will help emphasize the importance of reading.
I want to foster a love of reading for my students and what better way to do that than with books! As a new teacher, I am coming into my classroom without a class library for my students. I hope to have books available from day one for my students to use! (I know that the project might not be fully funded before school starts, but whenever the books are available will be great!)
I've also included book bins in this project so each student has a place to store the books they borrow from the class library.
