Hi! My kindergarten students are about to complete one of the most important milestones of their life- the first day of school! They will be working hard to achieve their full potential. Their days and weeks will be filled with many wonderful experiences and opportunities to learn and grow.
According to OSPI, I can expect many of my students to be socio-economically disadvantaged, and approximately 70% will qualify for free or reduced lunch.
My students will come from a variety of language and cultural backgrounds. About 40% of students are English Language Learners (May, 2017). My students are in an Integrated Kindergarten (IK) resource support program that will meet the needs of students with a variety of disability categories such as autism, cognitive deficits, specific learning disabilities, and social emotional disabilities.
My Project
The lessons and activities that occur on the classroom carpet will be essential to my kindergartners' learning experiences. In the morning we will use the carpet for our morning meeting where we will build classroom community. We will continue to have literacy and math mini lessons on the carpet throughout the day. The carpet I am asking for has clearly delineated seating areas to help my kindergarten students know where to sit. This way they can better attend to lessons and activities.
Specifically, the organized rows with a variety of colors saves us time and energy that would otherwise be wasted reminding students where to sit.
Instead, this carpet will help us focus our attention on building a kind, caring, and academically rigorous classroom.
This carpet will help support my first class of kindergartners as well as many future scholars!
