My Students
My students are a group of diverse, driven young adults. Many come from an economically underserved community and low income households. I love that they are looking to educate themselves in a way that will help to best serve themselves and their communities now and in the future. South side Des Moines pride is real, and they are continuously looking to show their pride.
My Project
As an English teacher, my students need basic writing supplies. Because my class sizes are so large, I would love to supply each student with composition books and necessary writing utensils to use for both handwritten notes and annotating print texts. We will be starting with a nonfiction informational text unit, so students will benefit from annotating texts and jotting notes in physical notebooks. If we have to go back online, I still think it’s useful for each student to have a paper notebook to write in because many are not used to the technology or just like the option of physically writing.
