Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This will be my first year teaching. I have yet to meet my students but I can not wait to. However, I know my students are a community of fifth-grade scholars. They are going to be inquisitive, creative, and hard-working.
My students come from a low socio-economic background.
The students come from a high poverty area, with three-fourths of them coming from low-income households. I want this classroom to be a home away from their own home and our classroom environment to feel same.
My Project
I do not want to go into my first year of teaching with an "empty" room, I want the parents of my students to see the effort I put into creating the warm, loving, respectful learning environment and hopefully be confident that I will bring that same enthusiasm into the school year. This year I will be teaching 3 blocks of Social Studies, Science, and writing.
All of these supplies will go to creating the welcoming space I hope to provide.
- Many of the items like pencils, sharpener, hand sanitizer, globe, and crayons will allow my students to have basic supplies for the classroom.
- The rug and bookshelf will provide the students with a cozy place to fall in love with reading.
- The 3 drawer stage unit will go to providing the students will more space since they will be sharing their desk will 3 other periods.
- The books selected will be used for both my history and writing lesson. Reading historical graphic novels will foster a love of reading and build the foundations of a knowledge of history.
By offering my students a classroom that is welcoming, organized, and full books, I believe that I will find them wanting to read and learn. Again, being in a very low-income community, I want my students to WANT to come to school and be excited to learn. I feel that the supplies, while some are costly, are needed in order to reach each student's interest level and learning style. Thank you in advance for your help!
