My students need a classroom library to encourage reading. Having a variety of books will encourage students to read and enjoy reading while enhancing their vocabulary.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember the very first book your read or your favorite book as a child? I remember when I learned to read, I wanted to read everything I could because reading opens doors to many new experiences.
My students are served in a Title 1 school.
Most of my students come from single-parent homes where it is sometimes hard to get materials that they need. There is great diversity amongst learning abilities. Therefore, finding the materials that are needed to engage and keep the attention of the students is very important.
My Project
I am requesting items to set up a classroom library. This is my very first year as a teacher and many supplies are needed. However, I feel that the library is the most important. The students will find plenty of opportunities to explore new topics, enhance their reading skills, and expand their vocabulary with a classroom library that is stocked with various books. The students will be able to read along as they play a cd to a book, also use learning activities to enhance their reading skills.
A classroom without a classroom library is a classroom waiting for disaster. Students will be able to read a book when they are finished with their assignments. The students will also be using the books to engage in independent reading while I am working with small groups of struggling students.
Being able to have a classroom library that is stocked with a variety of books is very important.
As a first year teacher, I want to be prepared for my students when they come into the classroom. I want them to be excited to have books to read.
