Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative and inspiring scholars who live in Oakland, California. Many are English language learners and live in low-income neighborhoods. My goal is to create an inviting, caring community where they feel comfortable and safe. There are many elements that go into an organized, well-functioning classroom. Some students are coming in with special needs and would greatly benefit from many differentiated options. These students will come into school with a wide range of needs and a huge variety of skill levels. That means that there will be a lot of materials used to ensure each child gets their individual needs met. It is going to be a transformational year for all.
My Project
These folders, projector sleeves, erasers, pencils, and pencil boxes will be used on the very first day of school in 2019-2020!
This project will provide new supplies for incoming second graders next year.
These incoming second graders will be overjoyed to have new pencil boxes, pencils, erasers, folders, etc. Funding this project will ensure that students coming to school after summer will be welcomed with brand new materials which will help them succeed throughout the year.
My hope is to give each student a new pencil box filled with supplies on day one so that they feel at home in my classroom. Many of these students do not have the resources to shop for back to school supplies on their own or with families so I want to provide these on my own!
