This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students walk into my classroom every day full of life, ready to learn and excited for what is in store for them that day. I ask them, "Who is the best fourth/fifth grade class in the whole world?" and they reply, "We are!" I want them to know I believe in them and they can do and achieve anything. Basic supplies are very difficult for my students to buy to keep the learning going.
I teach at a Title I school in Detroit Public Schools where one hundred percent of my students receive free breakfast, lunch and a snack for dinner.
Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful.
My Project
My students come into our classroom with little or no school supplies to start the year off. I am asking for pencils, dry erase markers, washcloths to be used as dry erasers, crayons, folders, and chalk for my old classroom chalk boards. Cleaning supplies to keep the kids healthy in the classroom throughout their year. Welcome back posters to encourage students to come back to school with a positive attitude.
Providing students with the necessary basic school supplies has a great impact on the students learning experience.
The pencils will help my students to complete daily assignment making sure that they are prepared and ready to write at any given time. We use dry erase markers in our Math lessons. They love using dry erase markers so they can erase and rewrite (it's like magic). During our writing units, students are required to jot down any ideas they may have for that unit. Folders will help keep the student's assignments and homework organized.
These supplies will be used to help my students have the best learning environment this year. With your help, my students will have enough supplies to last us through the year 2019-2020 school year.
