"All scholars will be equipped with the knowledge, character and leadership skills to graduate from college and serve the common good." This is my school's mission and what my twenty-six, brave, strong, smart, silly, determined first grade kiddos arrive at school ready and willing to tackle every single day. However, this is not without it's challenges.
Nearly all of my first grade scholars are from immigrant families whose first language is not English.
Ninety-eight percent of them qualify for free or reduced price lunch. Despite these incredible challenges, they show up everyday eager to learn, work and play hard.
We would love some extra support in achieving our mission!
My Project
These floor seats will help support my students; literally and figuratively. First graders are still building their core muscle stamina, which makes sitting without support a tricky task. Students are expected to sit unsupported by a chair multiple times throughout the day, which is causing some students to feel frustrated when their bodies just can't handle it anymore.
Once students have these chairs as an option, students will be able to focus more on their academics and spend less time worrying about if their bodies can sit comfortably.
Students should have the opportunity to learn without having to worry about if their body will impede their learning. These chairs will allow students to reach their full potential, regardless of their physical abilities.
