Help me give my students additional seating options around the classroom, some for comfort and some for focus. After teaching eleven years, most of my rugs and bean bags have come under some strenuous wear and tear!
Every student that walks in my door gets a clean slate. Not just at the beginning of the year, but every single morning. It is important for each child to feel a sense of belonging in their classroom community so that they can thrive emotional and socially.
I can't wait to meet my class of 2019-2020.
I know each one was placed into my room for a specific reason and I can't wait to watch them meet their fullest potential.
My Project
I am hoping the materials will make my classroom a warm and inviting place where students can focus on growing emotionally and academically. Some materials will be used for mental breaks. Some will be used to provide students an additional place to sit, other than their desk! Different seating options can also aid in the academic and social success of students with special needs and/or learning disabilities.
As we build a student-centered environment, it is important for students to gain ownership in learning how to pick a spot in the classroom that allows them to be successful.
Gone are the days where students are expected to sit quietly and not move from their desks. Learning should be collaborative and engaging. I am hoping with these new seating options, to do just that.
