My students need adequate flexible seating for whole group instruction, as well as an efficient learning area for guided reading and guided math instruction.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Forest View Elementary school is a science, outdoor education based school. Our school serves a large Refugee population.
There are 32 countries represented through our school community.
Majority of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. With some families receiving additional assistance for meals on the weekends. Our refugee students and our low SES students come to our school without any previous experiences and knowledge of what school is about. Our goal as teachers at Forest View is to provide our students with as many experiences as we can to enhance their learning experiences.
My Project
My students currently do not have carpet seating for whole group instruction. By providing them with their own individual spot, they will be able to focus on instruction instead of classroom distractions. With a new dry erase horseshoe table, I will be able to provide direct instruction in ELA, reading, and math. The dry erase aspect will give my students the opportunity to practice new skills such as spelling, sight words, addition, and subtraction. With their close proximity to me, I will be able to focus on individual skills to help students succeed and prepare for the next grade level.
