This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and developmental delays need engaging and colorful hands-on educational materials to give them access to fun learning opportunities. These materials will help to develop and improve their early language, math literacy and cognitive skills.
Many of my students are non-verbal individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and developmental delays.
They range from ages 3 to 4 years. They learn best by using hands-on activities. My favorite thing about my students is that they love learning. However, many of them have difficulty attending to activities and these educational activities will provide another way to engage them in learning.
Despite the many challenges that my students face, I like to keep things simple and provide my them with creative and meaningful learning experiences. Unfortunately, our school's limited budget does not allow for us to acquire resources such as hands-on educational activities for our students. The educational activities will be used to assist in their learning and expose them to a variety of activities that can be used across the curriculum.
My Project
These materials will address my students' early literacy, math and cognitive needs and provide opportunities for hands-on learning and peer-to-peer interaction. The various counting and sorting materials will give them opportunities to practice their number sense and visual perceptual skills using colorful and engaging materials. The various letter activities will develop their letter recognition skills. The lacing cards will help to build their eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills. The materials will be used during our whole-group and small-group instruction. Students will also have the opportunity to select the activity of their choice during math and literacy centers. This will help to foster their independence while sustaining their attention. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated by my students and I.
