Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My amazing 3rd graders attend a large public elementary school in the South Bronx, where nearly all students come from low-income households.
My bilingual classroom is comprised of Spanish speaking students at a beginning level of English speaking proficiency.
They come from many different Spanish speaking countries including the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Honduras, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, and Peru. They step into my classroom every day eager to learn and willing to work hard. As their teacher, I want to provide them with the tools, opportunities, and experiences that they need to be successful in life.
My Project
As the new school year approaches, I am becoming anxiously excited to meet my new students.
But the excitement quickly turns to sadness as I remember that a new school year also means another year where I watch parents struggle to get their children basic school supplies.
This year school year I would like to ease their struggles by surprising them with the supplies that their children will need for the upcoming school year.
I am asking for your help to bring this idea to life. My students will need pencils, notebooks, markers, toner to print their projects, erasable pens, and other basic materials. These materials will help them complete daily school work in the classroom and at home.
It is important that my students have the supplies that they need for the school year, even if their parents are not able to afford them. With your help in funding this project, parents will not have to struggle to get the necessary school supplies and students will have the tools that they need for their success.
