This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a middle school in urban South Carolina where our children receive lunches. Many of my students lack resources at home, as well as crucial support from parents and guardians. They come to school looking for food, attention, and care.
Despite all of this, my eighth grade students are incredibly intelligent, kind, and energetic.
They make me laugh every day. I genuinely enjoy coming to work to see them. I watch them thrive, in spite of their obstacles. They inspire me greatly.
My Project
These materials are incredibly useful and practical to have in the classroom. I can’t even begin to explain how many students come into school on Day One and are sick by the weekend. When students are away for the summer and suddenly return, all of their various germs are suddenly in one place, ready to go. My students are constantly asking me for tissues and hand sanitizer to use in the classroom. I also like having my students use Clorox wipes to clean their desks and chairs; each day, they come into my room with a clean space and leave one for the next person!
These basic sanitation items like Kleenex and Chlorox wipes will make more of a difference than I can even explain...anyone who attends school can tell you how wonderful it is to stay healthy, focused, and energized!
