New School, New Opportunities... Help Stock My New Therapy Room
My students need up-to-date and engaging therapy materials like the Photo Conversation Cards and Word Teasers to work on social language, and interactive games like Super Sleuth and Classwords to target their language goals.
I provide individualized services to roughly 30 students at my school district's new 6th Grade Center, which houses half of the 6th grade population in the district. Serving half the 6th graders with speech and language needs in the district means I see students from all backgrounds, and many are from families who struggle financially. I serve students with Autism, Down Syndrome, Speech Impairments, Hearing Impairments, Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, ADHD and students with medical conditions. Some students are in the regular education setting for most of their day, while others spend the majority of their days in special education classrooms.
My students are making the exciting (and sometimes scary) transition from elementary to middle school.
They are still eager to come to school and are becoming more proficient readers. They are learning responsibility and are gaining independence at school and at home. They are beginning to explore their specific interests and are establishing the values and beliefs that will guide them through life. But sometimes my students have trouble with articulation or understanding and using language concepts to successfully communicate their ideas, knowledge, and needs to those around them. It is my job to help them become better communicators.
I will use the resources to address the speech and language goals on my students' IEPs.
Several of the resources can be used to target many goals simultaneously and are in a game format, which is highly motivating for my students.
These resources include That's It!, Pickles to Penguins, Story Dealer Steam and Fitz It. Students will have so much fun building their communication skills!
Additionally, I will address conversational and social skills with the Conversation Photo Cards and WordTeasers. I will target inferencing and vocabulary building (which helps support literacy growth) with Super Sleuth, ClassWords, and the EduPress cards.
