New School in the South Bronx - We need Literature!
My students need a book organizer and more literature in the classroom. We are a new school and are beginning to develop and grow, but we lack in the amount of books in our library.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
One of the most essential tools for students to gain an understanding of a concept is through literature. We are a new school and need help gathering books for our students. They have read through the book we currently have and are beginning to drain the local library!
Our students are ages 5-6 (Kindergarten) and range in different backgrounds with families from Puerto Rico, Cameroon, to Honduras.
They are energetic, full of life, kind and sweet, hopeful, motivated, and developing in so many ways. We are brand new school and this is our first year. We are located in the South Bronx of New York and our community is warm and welcoming but limited in some resources.
My Project
We want our students to be able to gain exposure, experiences, and really connect with literature and in order for us to do that we need more books. Our students love to be read to and love to read. We connect our work in the classroom, group discussions, themes, etc. to different types of literature and our students will be able to do this with your help. We are asking for books, mostly non-fiction to help our students gain fundamental background knowledge they will need in order to gain new knowledge.
Please help us gain more literature for our students.
More books mean more connections, more meaningful lessons, and more exposure the students will have and most of all to help them learn how to read!!!
