Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students deserve a new, clean rug to sit on everyday. Nothing is better then having a warm cozy place to learn and listen. With a new large rug all of my students will have a place to sit, no one will have to sit on the cold hard floor!

My students are coming from a low income neighborhood.

They are an eager, happy bunch who love coming together everyday on the rug to learn. My school is a Title I school located on the south side of Chicago. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students are in the RTI program, where they are receiving even more assistance in reading and math.

My Project

With a new large rug I will have space for all of my students to learn together. I have learned over the years that first-graders love to come to the classroom rug for morning meeting, calendar time, closing meeting and even to just dance! When the class comes all together we are able to build relationships, classroom community and just have fun!

With a large, bright rug all of the students will have a space to sit.

No one will have to sit on the cold floor or have to pull a chair over. The new large rug will create a welcoming area for students to share thoughts and listen to each other.
