After seven years, I finally have an art room. I teach art in grades three through six, and we just recently hired another art teacher for the younger grades. The problem is, we lack supplies to create a successful program.
Having a room is a miracle, but with the recent budget cuts there is no room for art supply money. We've doubled the amount of teachers this year, also adding an additional art teacher and we find that we do not have enough supplies to share between us.
Both I and the new art teachers have all these ideas on lesson plans for our students, including doing projects that we collaborate on. However, we need the basics to start. Oil pastels, Chalk pastels, paper(we barely have any), wood (for sculptures) and glue. We know what our students are capable but we want to provide them with more than just crayons and pencils so that their work can really shine.
You will make it possible for my students to enjoy their knew art room and expand their capabilities beyond the everyday pencil/crayon drawings that they are able to use in their own classrooms. Our lack of budget this year and the past year makes your help even more imperative, and more important. Thank you so much.
