This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Each year, I have around 20-22 Kindergarten students in my class. We are located in beautiful downtown Charleston, SC. Almost all of the students come from low income households. My five and six year old students love to learn and accomplish their goals. They are creative, enthusiastic, and extremely hard working. I am extremely lucky to have a group of students come into my room each year that thrive in an educational setting that gives them the opportunity to become lifelong learners.
My Project
For a long time, I have wanted to revamp my reading center to make it a place my students enjoy going to and choose to go to on their own. These two couches will allow my students to partner read in a relaxing environment. It will give them the opportunity to be comfortable while practicing their reading. They can choose to read with a partner or by themselves. I will also be able to sit with them there on occasions and read with them one on one. It will also serve as a place distractible students can go to and finish their work without being distracted by others.
