Trying new things makes our brains grow! Every morning, I greet my students at the door and tell them about all of the exciting things we are going to do each day in our Kindergarten classroom.
Our classroom is in a small rural school district where many students receive free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch.
In our classroom, we have adopted a "growth mindset" in which just the act of trying something new can help us learn and grow. We encourage each other to take risks even if they may be uncomfortable at first.
My children come from a variety of backgrounds and have a variety of needs. I hope to provide them with many different learning opportunities so that they can have the flexibility to discover how they learn best. These opportunities to grow will allow students to take charge of their learning so they can be successful learners for years to come.
My Project
In my classroom, I strive to provide as many opportunities for academic and social growth as possible. Throughout the year, my students have worked hard learning the skills required to read. My students are passionate about reading and often ask to read the books in our classroom leveled library during their choice time.
Building a larger leveled library is essential to encourage students to grow as independent readers, no matter what reading level they are on.
By providing additional, high interest leveled readers, students can choose topics that intrigue them and have a greater variety of books to choose from. By adding non-fiction texts, students will have the opportunity to research topics for our non-fiction writing as well.
After all, the best way to improve fluency and expand our knowledge is by reading.
