My students need books for our classroom library to feed their reading appetites with fun, interesting, current titles. I especially need titles that appeal to boys.
I work in a small school that is growing rapidly. There are 20 eager children in my second grade classroom. There is a large range of abilities and backgrounds, including poverty and trauma. In our classroom we work hard to listen to each other and value our differences.
We become a school family.
At our school we strive to create community and safe workspaces and our students rise to that expectation. They are caring and supportive of each other and work hard to do their best.
My Project
These books will become part of my classroom library. Students will devour these books independently as I work with small groups and meet individually with students about their reading. My position was just created this summer due to growing enrollment, which means I am starting from scratch with very little resources. I believe kids learn to read by reading and reading and reading and that they need books in front of them that they really want to read that are fun, interesting, and current.
I have very few books in my classroom and am worried it will be hard to feed their appetite and keep them reading the volume needed for them to grow as readers.
