New Physical Education Grading System Based on Personal Fitness
Help me give my students the opportunity to create a personalized physical education fitness plan using heart rate monitors to encourage Personal Fitness growth.
Our students are enthusiastic and creative individuals who love to participate in physical activity in many different forms throughout the year. Being a physical education teacher for an elementary school, I see an average of 250 students twice a week for 45 minutes a day. At our elementary school we are constantly exposing students to many different activities from around the world to enhance their knowledge of movement and cultural differences. Recently, we have added sports such as cricket, touch rugby and a multicultural unit with games from around the world. We have students from all backgrounds but most of our students come from a lower-middle-income family.
My Project
Physical education has struggled for years with determining how to grade individual students. The use of heart rate monitors has been a recent development to assist with the accurate measurement of effort during a physical education class.
Having the students wear heart rate monitors, the teacher is able to see how much effort they are putting forth during the class.
Typical physical education class, you have multiple kids at different levels of physical fitness. These heart rate monitors will allow us to see the amount of effort an individual is putting forth at any given time. If the individual is a highly fit student, you would be able to see if they are truly putting out their maximum effort during the class. On the other side of the coin, if an individual is not very physically fit but is trying their hardest you would be able to see that the heart rate has risen and they are truly putting out their maximum effort. This would create a more accurate and measurable wave braiding in our school or physical education.
