Help me give my students four Makey Makey circuit kits to explore engineering and the creative process for distance learning!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
In New Orleans for two and a half years, my classroom has been housed in a temporary building and we had just moved to our new building when we had to immediately go to distance learning. The majority of my students come from diverse backgrounds and low-income households. All of my students qualify for free lunch. My students' parents are on board, but they cannot provide support for us as they are working two or more jobs at a time. Some students have no support from family and therefore, we need your support.
My K-5 students value the unique culture of New Orleans, believe in fairness, equity and inclusion, and they are also excited about learning how to excel in school.
This pandemic should not limit their abilities or expectations. They have set high goals for themselves. It is needed for their social-emotional health!
Please help me deliver Makey Makey circuit kits to explore engineering and the creative process for my students. We need these for supporting distant learning as it will make a difference in their lives while learning from home. It is essential for my gifted boys and girls to have fun while we do hybrid learning.
Our student body is primarily of minority background, and many students are stressed and feel emotionally distraught. I want them to be excited to engage in new activities in engineering. I'm eager to provide them an outlet which is interesting, intellectually stimulating and creative. I am requesting these Makey Makey kits so students can create circuits using household objects.
My girls are usually not exposed to engineering concepts, I really wish to provide them an incentive to feel they have an equal opportunity to learn while using the Makey Makey kits to understand how circuits function.
The step by step constructions for the kits are available online. All of my students will create designs based on their interests. They will be doing challenging activities using models.
The kits are a platform that easily allows creativity to flourish, and while learners build and design, the whole family can participate in an engaging learning project at the same time!
