New Orleans East to Panama: STEM Study Abroad Trip!
Help me give my students the experience of a lifetime! Through your donation, students will be able to explore Panama through the lens of STEM education! This request is to help us pay part of the deposit.
My students are some of the most tenacious students I have ever met. My students arrive at school every day ready to learn despite the many obstacles they face every day. 85% of students walk to school and 100% receive free or reduced-price lunch. Even with these hardships, my students come to school with a hunger for knowledge that far exceeds the classroom resources.
My students thirst for real-life experience is so unquenchable that my classroom resources cannot keep up.
As a Biology teacher, I use Powerpoints, videos, and conduct experiments every day to expose my students to the wide world of science, technology, engineering, and math. However, my ever curious students constantly ask me questions about systems and concepts that are much better understood in person.
My Project
Hello, fellow supporter of education and equity! Thank you for taking the time to consider supporting our trip to Panama!
For the past two years, we have had the privilege of teaching highly ambitious yet underserved students who wish to expand their horizons and experience cultures different from their own.
20 high school applicants will be afforded the deserving opportunity to explore a different country: Panama.
Our school will be joining forces with EF Educational Tours on an 8-day program for students to develop STEM skills and discover the beauty of traveling abroad. Our mission is to empower students to push past their comfort zone and allow them to immerse themselves in another country’s rich history, diverse culture, and, through that process, become powerful leaders.
Our high school is a place full of potential. Every day in the classroom, we push our students to be ambitious, think critically about the world, and advocate for themselves. Unfortunately, the reality in which our students live pushes against their goals and dreams. As teachers, it is our charge to whole-heartedly provide eye-opening opportunities that will allow them to learn, create, and empower each other and their communities in and outside of the classroom. We want students to explore beyond the everyday walls of New Orleans because immersing themselves in a different culture is imperative to their success. Because our students’ success is our primary goal, we have decided to take 20 students to Panama for eight days in July!
