Most of my students live in a rural community with a high rate of poverty. All 20 of them enjoy hands-on activities with reading, math and science, and are always ready and excited to try new and more challenging tasks. Even after three years of teaching, I continue to be amazed and motivated every day by their desire and passion for learning!
I will be using the Time for Kids magazines in my classroom instruction for reading, science and social studies.
They will also be used to promote global awareness in my classroom. Through these magazines, my students will gain an understanding of different cultures and will learn more about the world and current events around them.
Since they will be able to take these magazines home with them, these materials will make an enormous difference in my students' learning while at school and at home!
Students will be exposed to many various texts and text features through the magazines. I will develop additional activities to use with the students in conjunction with the magazines to further develop their fluency, comprehension and discussion skills when reading nonfiction texts.
My Project
These magazines will help to open up the world of my students. Time for Kids has great graphic and text features to help support readers. Time for Kids is on grade level material and is standards focused for reading and social studies. Teaching students about the world around them is important in education. In order for my students to grow, I hope they can one day go visit new places and explore new ideas.
I feel that this magazine will help my students dream bigger and think deeper about the world as a whole not just how they live in our small community.
