I currently teach choir at a large 9th-12th grade high school in Alaska. We are a growing choir program with many students involved from many different cultures. Our school is one of the largest in the state with approximately 1650 students.
These students are thoughtful, curious, and united by a love for singing.
They come to school every day from various backgrounds, and when they come into my classroom, they come into a place where their status is not defined by how much money their family has, or what clothes they are wearing, but instead by how much they push themselves to be better every day.
We are in the process of rebuilding the music program, and finding the resources so that every student in this school can participate and be a part of something bigger than themselves.
My Project
Students will always rise to the expectations you set for them. New, professional uniforms will help the music students sing, play, and feel like a unified group. The more unified and professional they feel, the better they will perform. These necklaces are one of our school colors and will allow students to feel connected to our school while they perform.
When students feel proud of how they look on stage, they perform better and feel more connected with those around them.
When students feel more connected to their fellow ensemble members, the morale goes up and they encourage their friends to join music classes. These necklaces are the catalyst we need to encourage participation in our music program.
