Help me give my students engaging, colorful, hands-on materials like a Magnetic Language Rods Set, Story Sequence Cards and Puzzles, Academic Vocabulary Cards and Comprehension Puzzles so they can stay motivated each and every day.
My Kindergarten through 3rd grade speech/language students are also English Language Learners. They have challenges understanding concepts and vocabulary, expressing themselves verbally and speaking so that others can understand their speech. These speech/language needs impact academic progress in reading and writing and math. Our diverse district is home to students speaking more than 125 different languages and dialects. Approximately 34% of students are English Language Learners and 15% of students require special education services. 85% of our students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch.
Despite a long list of challenges, the students arrive at school every day with huge smiles, backpacks, laughter, and energy ready to take on the world.
Every day students discover and learn through rich classroom experiences and excitedly share with their families at home.
My Project
My students need a variety of materials to practice language and vocabulary skills, including inferencing, sequencing, categorizing. Students who can manipulate objects, pictures and cards experience how words are connected and represent objects and tell stories. Students with word finding difficulties and speech that is not easy to understand can communicate what they understand using
Your donation will provide continued motivation for my students to practice their skills so they can become better speakers, readers and writers.
Students who have speech/language learning disorders have varied needs. Having a variety of hands-on engaging materials motivates them to keep working on skills that are challenging.
