Help me give my students some fun new ABC activities to do while their moms are here learning English. We lost our play sink and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Tree in a recent move and miss them!
This project is for Even Start, a family literacy program within Arlington Public Schools. Our students are English learners and parents of children under the age of ten. They come to Even Start four days a week to learn English and parenting and enhance their literacy skills. Their younger children, aged 1-4, spend the morning with us in a developmentally appropriate early childhood classroom. The program includes frequent collaboration between the adult and early childhood classrooms for the parent and child to learn together.
This dynamic program empowers parents and children alike to embrace literacy and learning in a fun and safe environment.
We give the parents the skills they need to become active partners in their children's education. Our students of all ages thrive in our community of learners. We are rebuilding our classrooms after a recent move and need to fill the gaps of some missing items.
My Project
This is a family literacy program. Our little ones engage in structured literacy activities every day in the early childhood classroom while their family member studies English and Parenting in the next room. Our families do not have many instructional materials in their homes, and have limited or no formal education. We create developmentally appropriate activities to foster pre-literacy skills in our little ones, and provide opportunities to include the parents in that process.
During our recent move, we lost some treasured materials and are seeking to replace them.
Our youngest learners have demonstrated that they need more tactile literacy activities so we have included some materials for that in our request. Of course, dramatic play is also a crucial part of an early childhood classroom, and our kitchen is incomplete without a sink. Thank you for considering a donation.
