My Project

Working as a librarian at a junior high, I hear the words "I don't like to read" almost daily. One of the main functions of a school library is to help instill in students a love of reading. However, with the effects of the pandemic, the last few years have seen a much smaller budget to purchase new library books for schools.

New and diverse library books is one step towards helping students find books that interest them.

Book choice is essential to encouraging students to read. A wide variety of new and diverse books gives students the opportunity to read a story that is relatable or engaging. It gives students a chance to find a book that can serve as a mirror of their own life and emotions; or as a window into the experiences of others.
