WHS has a population of 650 students. We are a rural town of about 15,000. The library is a vital tool for our students as well as a classroom, meeting room, source of information and technology. We have a copy center, tech support services, printing services, and makerspace. Students as well as teachers consider the library a vital hub of the school. We continue to strive to make it a enjoyable and inviting place for students to study, get academic support, and research.
High school students always ask, "Where are the new books?" We are excited about displaying our new books in the style of a book store example. New fiction books are coded with a genre sticker and put on display by their genre instead of the author.
Students need to "Unplug and read a good book." It is vital that we keep up to date with the current library materials and provide an eye-catching ways for students to see them.
There is nothing better than to see the students say how "cool" the books are and want to check them out.
As a librarian we try to promote reading for enjoyment as well as for information. We hope to instill in students the love for reading and the promotion of books.
