This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Diverse Authors for Diverse Learners
My students are primarily coming from New Orleans East, the Desire area, and the Lower Ninth Ward.
My students need a better selection of books that are diverse and contemporary! They need to see newer books that are fresh and exciting to them.
We recently looked through our library collection and realized some of our books had passed their prime for our students. It is time to add new books they want to read.
They are a driven, enthusiastic, and a genuinely kind group of high schoolers who love to read a variety of genres including urban fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, non-fiction, historical fiction and more. Soon, they'll be college bound. They are excited by this challenge on the horizon and are hungry for a rigorous high school experience that will prepare them for it. We want more resources for our library so students can find more books they want to read, and haven't read before.
My Project
In order for my students to be on track for college, nothing is more important than helping them improve their reading levels. Getting better at anything requires a lot of practice. Reading is no different.
Your donation of high-interest books will help my students fall in love with reading, and this will lead them to read more than ever before.
My dream is for our school library to look like Barnes and Noble. Our students deserve to have the experience of walking into a room and being surrounded by books that they cannot wait to read.
Because we have 895 students at our school, it is hard to keep popular books on the shelves! Please help by donating copies of these popular books.
