My students need a new classroom rug to sit on while learning that is large enough to fit all of them and durable enough to last for many more classes to come.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, they always come to school ready and willing to learn. I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are creative, brilliant, and eager to learn.
They like to draw, they love to read, they love to write stories and they thrive on lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Despite the odds stacked against them, my students show persistence in their daily challenges and long to show others how capable and smart they truly are.
As a class, we spend so much time listening to the teacher read, thinking about math problems, sharing our writing, talking, listening to guess speakers and presenters, problem solving, learning, singing, dancing and watching educational films at the rug that it's important that we can all fit and feel comfortable as a whole class. With the new rug, my students are given a space to sit together where they can easily turn and talk with their partners, and sit for an extended period of time without becoming uncomfortable. This gives them the opportunity to learn all that they need in order to be successful.
