Help me give my students an HP 14" i5 laptop so they can record podcasts, edit videos. This laptop is #3 in our goal to update our older laptop class set of twelve.
My middle school students live in a small supportive community, however, their families are far from being affluent with over 50% qualifying for free and reduced price lunch. Some are coming to school ready to fully engage, others have many real-life overwhelming obstacles to overcome before they can be ready to focus on learning.
They do, however, all love learning new things especially if they have the opportunity to blend hands-on projects and creativity.
My students enjoy independent work as well as team collaboration opportunities. I need an updated class laptop for students to have access to tools such as a LEGO Lobby for coding, Flashprint, a slicer program for 3D printing, Audacity for podcasting/editing, as well as a video editing software. These new units will help my students be engaged learners today, innovators, and future leaders tomorrow.
My Project
We have a much older set of laptops in our class and they are showing signs of age. Our goal is to replace this set with updated devices. This new HP laptop is our 3rd project toward this goal of 12 new updated devices.
With this HP laptop, we will be doing collaborative projects with new learning targets.
Students will have access to 3D slicer software to convert STL files to the required gx object for our FlashForge Finder 3D printer; Audacity, a recording and editing program to create "how to" screen recordings and green screen videos of the robots' algorithms; and the LEGO Education Lobby to program our EV3 robots. These tools will give students new choices to demonstrate their learning as well as increase their work readiness skill set.
