Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school just opened a 3rd kindergarten class due to high enrollment (YAY!) and I am switching from 4th grade to teach it. I believe that in addition to what the school's curriculum provides for student learning, they need to explore independently through play, reading, and interacting with peers!
My students are 20 lovely 5 year olds in a public elementary school in California.
Our school serves predominantly low income community members and the students do not have many resources outside of school. They are all SO eager to learn and explore and I want to give them that chance in my classroom. They are funny and sweet and I think that aside from the academics they learn from me, they need the chance to explore themselves and what they like as well as learn how to interact with their peers in a way that will positively serve them in their lives. They love listening to stories, doing puzzles, and creating beautiful art projects. Please help us have a fun and successful classroom this year!
My Project
As mentioned before, my school just recently received the funds to open a 3rd kindergarten classroom due to high enrollment. I have very few resources besides what is included with the curriculum for math and language arts that my school has adopted. As a kindergarten teacher, I believe that students need more than just academics in order to be successful and learn the skills that are important in this early stage in their lives. They need to be able to independently make choices of materials to interact with. I want to make sure that they can have some time in the day to explore the classroom, but to learn while doing it. With the alphabet puzzles, the phonics tales, the magnetic letters, and all of the books that I have requested, I think that they will be able to do this. I also want to be able to use manipulatives for math, the bugs, and let them build with the Duplos. I only have one rug in my room and the other two will serve as our place to sit when we do our calendar
PLEASE!
These students need your help in the classroom. For most of them, school is the safest place they can be and the place where they are exposed to the most resources. I want to make sure that these children have the best and most enriching kindergarten experience that they can have. Your donations will help them grow and develop into creative, bright, and smart young people. They will be able to take the collaborative skills they learn in kindergarten with them in their lives.
