This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Band students at our school are awesome, and they deserve more! Schools no longer support the music programs as they have in the past when many of us were in school. Old, broken, insufficient instruments...no money in the budget to purchase new music and not enough quality technology to help these students succeed in today's music world. Too much focus on testing in the "core" sometimes pulls our best students from the band classroom.

My Project

Some of our high school students do not get the opportunity to be a part of the band in middle school (for various reasons) and at North Meck we offer a beginner band for these students.

I want to be in the band!!

Many students tell me this during the first week of classes and I let them know about our beginner band class. This gives many 9th (10th,11th and even 12th) grade students a chance to learn how to play a band instrument and become a member of the concert band & the marching band. The one thing that holds them back is the cost of renting an instrument. These clarinets & saxophones will help our students became a member of the school band.
