My students need good choral folders and my budget is getting smaller. I found strong folders that are half the price of traditional choral folders! PLEASE HELP!
When I got my job last year, I started out with 75 students. This year I have 155 students! My program is growing and my budget is shrinking. Last year I bought the students folders with my own money and they always fall apart midway through the year. I want to have good folders that will last!
The high school I teach at is very diverse ethnically and socio-economically, but there is a lot of poverty and there are a lot of problems.
What makes me so happy is to see these kids walk into my classroom and put their problems aside and sing from their hearts. They have made huge progress in just one year, so this year I am taking them to a competition because they have improved so much! I love walking into my classroom every day, no matter how tired or discouraged I am feeling, because of the energy and perseverance they bring. They are amazing people.
My Project
If I were to buy traditional "choral" folders, they would be costly. I found these folders for less and they are made of plastic, so they will last a long time. They also have a clear insert on the front that you can put a piece of paper in (like a title page), and I am so elated because I can put a circle of fifths chart on the front. Each day we do sight-reading and it's hard for them to see the circle of fifths I made in the front of the classroom. It would be amazing to have it right at their disposal. Also, not having to replace half of the folders half way through the year because they are made of paper would be so economically smart.
I really want these students to understand how amazing they really are, and I want them to have real musical experiences so they can feel confident and professional.
This may seem like something small, but to them, it will be very exciting. We really do appreciate ANYTHING we can get, and I know it will help to make them feel like what they are doing is important!
