My students need more instruments in the classroom and oboe reeds.

My school is a small Title I school in Charlotte. Unlike a lot of schools in North Carolina, our school is PreK-8. We provide our scholars with the opportunity to learn and grow in the same community for up to 10 years with us. I work in collaboration our K-5 General Music Teacher, to give each scholar a well rounded musical education from Kindergarten all the way to 8th grade.
My students come from low income families and want the opportunity to become great musicians.
I teach band and general music so I teach all middle grades, 6-8. None of my band students can afford to purchase or rent an instrument so the school provides every instrument we can for them, but some students still have to share.
Today I saw the passion in a 6th grade percussionist's eyes as I worked with him after school on mallet percussion, snare and bass drum. He was so excited to start drums, something we had yet to do in class because our focus is note reading. He is becoming a very talented percussionist and I was so proud that he wanted to stay after to get even better.
My students come from low income homes. It is a struggle for most to get instruments on their own. My school provides all the instruments needed in band. As I am getting more and more students, we need more and more instruments. This new flute and oboe reeds will help us out beyond measure as we have some flutes that don't even function properly. Make a child happy and help us purchase this instrument. Music education is everything to some of my students. They don't have much at home and these instruments mean the world to them and will help them towards a better future in music.
