My Students

Through my classroom I am able to reach students from all walks of life. To give students who do not have a regular opportunity to express themselves through materials that are not readily available to them. My classes are well rounded with students of all abilities and backgrounds. I also have one buddy’s class that pairs my special needs students with a students from my mainstream art classes. This class is very heartwarming as the mainstream students help my students with special needs create projects that they would not be able to do on their own. It is very eye opening for my mainstream students giving them new friends that they may not have made otherwise. It opens their hearts and their minds to something they did not understand before. It is an amazing class to have the opportunity to teach.

My Project

To this point my students have had very limited experiences with the use of clay and glazes. What clay projects we have been able to do have been finished using paint. This limits puts a very large limitation on what the students projects can be used for. Glazes create a finish that allows for the students projects to be food/water safe. Paint does not allow for this option.

Students would highly appreciate the opportunity to be able to make cups, plates, vases and other sculptures that will hold water or are safe to use with food.
