Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school serves a low-income community in West Humboldt Park on the west side of Chicago. It is a neighborhood that has many bright spots, but also struggles heavily with drugs, gangs, crime, and violence. We believe all students deserve the best possible educational experience that equips them with the intellectual and personal skills they will need to pursue their dreams. We believe that students educated in a nurturing and challenging school environment and surrounded by staff and parents working together will excel. We believe that education is the gateway to success and we do all in our power to educate every child, regardless of circumstance.
Our children come from difficult situations and thrive on relationships and growth.
It's an honor to enter my twelfth year of teaching middle school students at this school. This year, I'm building relationships with approximately eighty seventh grade students. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated because we'll be able to provide an environment of focus and student centered learning.
My Project
My three 7th grade mathematics classrooms have access to laptops twice a week to support learning in the classroom. Students spend time on Google Classroom, Moby Max, NWEA prep and math games to enhance their math skills. Moby Max assesses students in various skills then allows teachers to assign lessons to meet student needs. The interactive lessons require headphones so that students can focus on individual content.
By donating to our project, you will give students a pair of working headphones, storage for the headphones, wipes to sanitize the headphones, and labels to organize, which will result success in the mathematics classroom.
Each student will be able to navigate individualized lessons and learn at their own level. Student growth is extremely important in 7th grade because students in Chicago Public Schools apply to get into the city's best schools. Grades, standardized test scores, and the selective enrollment test are calculated to be admitted into the best high schools.
