Let's step back in time. Way back in time! Yes, we are traveling back to Ancient Civilizations to learn about Prehistory, Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. This is our destination for the 7th grade Social Studies curriculum.
My classroom supports students who receive Special Education services for a variety of needs through small programs.
I am the case manager for a specialized program in our building. The students are eager to learn, take pride in their work and love to share their work with others. I teach 7th and 8th graders at a public middle school. My classes cover the core subject areas (science, social studies, ELA, math) as well as specialized areas (functional academics, life skills and vocational skills). Some students are taught in small groups with modifications to the common core and general education curriculum. Other students have a modified curriculum and/or direct instruction programs to enhance basic skills and learn to generalize them within the school and the community settings.
My Project
Ancient Civilization is the focus our 7th grade Social Studies. Students in special education need tools to help them learn, understand and reinforce the concepts and vocabulary of Ancient Civilizations. With these materials, students with have access to a variety of resources to learn about these times. Over the year, we travel from Prehistory to Mesopotamia to Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. All students need access to materials taught in general education. These materials will allow for information to presented at a student's learning level while focusing on grade level materials. This will help build each student's academic skills in areas such as reading for information, taking notes, and vocabulary development. In addition, students gain skills in geography, timelines, cultures, government and ways of life during each of these units. Poster will help with making connections as we journey through the Ancient Civilizations.
