Help me give my students a better classroom! This year, I am grateful to teach in a brand new, state-of-the-art classroom in a beautiful new building. However, with a new classroom comes new organization systems.
Whenever I introduce myself to new people, I am proud to tell them I teach 7th grade English. A normal response includes some praise along the lines of calling me a saint, or commenting on how much of a patient person I must be, but it is always followed up with "that's such a tough age." Working with 7th graders on a daily basis, I know this to be too true. However, I could not see myself teaching any other age.
My students this year break the mold when it comes to your typical 7th grader.
They are sweet, caring, kind, and genuine. They are motivated, engaged, and willing to do what it takes to be successful. In my 8 years of teaching, this is by far the best group of students I have ever taught.
My Project
When I packed up my old classroom to move into our new building, I was requested to purge things that I did not think I would need. Having never seen the new space, I had no idea what I would need and what I would not need.
The way I did things in my previous classroom have to be retooled and reworked.
The filing bins are a necessity as the new school does not provide filing cabinets, yet I am required to keep certain student materials for a certain number of years. In addition, I realized many of my classroom supplies were in pretty bad shape after having being in use for at least 4 years, if not longer. In addition, I have very limited bookshelves and will need to utilize the top of the cases in order to fully display my entire classroom library. The book ends will help me make the most interesting and engaging books stand out.
I also discovered when packing, that I did not laminate many resources which were destroyed when removing from the walls or in the moving crates. These materials will help me to make my new classroom fully functional.
