My Project

Middle school students have an incredible need to belong, so building a community area that is inviting is crucial. In our community area, we do whole class lessons and problem solve issues that we are facing as a class. Our community area is a place were we build trust in each other and take risks as learners. It is important that this area be a place that kids feel valued and cared for.

With these materials, my students will be better able to engage in partner talk, small impromptu group talk and talk as a whole class to share their thoughts and learning with each other .

Having a place where students can build on each other's ideas means our knowledge can grow exponentially!

Middle schools students want to have control in their lives, and while my students have assigned seats when at their desks, our community area is a space where they get to have choices. They can choose to sit on the carpet or on a bench, or they can choose to stand at a table which ever is more comfortable for their learning style. Addressing the needs of my learners is an incredible task, and with a donation towards this project, I will be better able to do so.
