Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 7th-grade scientists are enthusiastic, passionate young people who are committed to their personal and academic growth. Each day their questions ranging from "Is the universe infinite?" to "Where does our drinking water come from?", show me how driven they are to build their understanding of the natural world.
Our school, located in the poorest Congressional district in the country, is in need of many resources that would support our students in their learning.
That is why your help would be immensely appreciated!
My Project
Think about all of the ways you use technology and the internet. From checking the weather, to navigating to your next destination, to searching for your favorite recipe, you use technology to access online science resources every single day without realizing it! Now imagine a science classroom where these resources are unavailable to students. Unfortunately, budget cuts mean that my school only has outdated computers that often don't work. Three Chromebooks for classroom use will open a whole world of opportunities to my students. With the Chromebooks, they can access NGSS-aligned, online simulations, models, and graphics in science to help build their understanding of natural phenomena. They can utilize online presentation platforms to communicate the results of their latest experiment or investigation, an important practice of scientists. They will be able to conduct online research to extend their content knowledge beyond what was learned during class time. Additionally, the Chromebooks would allow students to check their grades on our online grading system or complete homework before/after school or during lunch. The possibilities are endless.
In today's world, educational technology for STEM classroom use is not a privilege, it is a necessity.
Thanks to the support of donors like you, 3 Chromebooks were funded in part 1 of this project. My goal is eventually to reach 15 Chromebooks in my class to enable partner work during class time. Please help me provide more individualized opportunities for my students.
