My students need new carpet. Our current carpet is held together with duct tape, and is too small- especially for my older students. It would be great to organize instrument parts by row color.
My students are enthusiastic and cheerful. They come from all backgrounds, and many are differently abled. As the music teacher, I am blessed to be able to teach and reach students of all types. Like many schools, we are focused on successes in the core subject areas; specifically reading and math. Sadly, with standardized testing being so important to school funding, this is the way it will likely stay into the foreseeable future.
In the music classroom, ALL students are able to find success and feel pride in their accomplishments!
I encourage kindness, creativity, and self-confidence above all else. Being in an environment which feels safe allows students to be themselves and showcase their talents.
My Project
Currently, my first through fourth grade students are sitting on a carpet that is way too small and being held together by duct tape. This has caused much distraction throughout our classes, due to kids picking at the tape and the unraveled threads. In addition, it has caused some classroom management issues because students are sitting so close together that they are touching.
I chose 2 of these "everyone has a place" carpets, so that every student will have a space of their own and room to place an instrument on the floor in front of them to use during class.
