This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a Chicago school where a vast majority of our students receive free or reduced price lunch. We work hard to ensure all of our students needs are being met and one of those needs is library books. Our students are intelligent, hard-working, and motivated to read, but need help finding the right books for them. Oftentimes, finding culturally relevant books can be a difficult task. Our goal is to develop our library so that it appeals to students from a variety of backgrounds with a variety of likes and interests.
My Project
We need books - including My Weird School, the Complete Buford series, Harry Potter and more. These books will help students continue to be engaged in reading as they get older and grown throughout our middle school. They also allow our struggling readers to have books that are funny and enjoyable, so they can develop a love of reading that can help them grow as readers. These books will help appeal to all levels of students whether it be a different grade, age, or even reading level. These materials will provide us will exceptional stories that are interesting and engaging.
These books will help our students continue to learn to love reading and will help make reading a sustainable habit.
